Create your own success: Madi Turner, Miss New Mexico Teen USA 2018
I have 4 rare health conditions and had brain surgery 2 years ago. Due to this, I wasn't able to play sports anymore and needed a new direction to take my life. Since I was little, my dream was to be Miss USA so I decided to begin chasing after this dream. Then I realized that pageants had a greater purpose, to make a change. I decided to be a voice for others with disabilities to not give up on their dreams.
Not only am I a voice, but also an active role model who promotes positivity. Growing up, I was bullied due to my size and awkwardness of my body. Now, I am able to see the beauty in these "flaws". We are all made to be ourselves, not someone else, and that is one of the many valuable things I have learned through pageantry. Pageants are not just about appearance, they are about making a positive change within society while teaching life skills. Through competing, I have learned how to market myself, interview well, and obtain jobs. Just like everything else in life, you get out what you put in. With hard work and confidence you will be unstoppable. While winning the crown is nice, the experiences will benefit you in ways you could never imagine.
